Maid of Honor Speech Sample

Thanks to (Best man’s name) for his eloquent speech there. I think I speak for a few of us who have learned something new about the groom here tonight.

I don’t quite know how I’m going to follow what the best man said, but I’ll give it a try. I’d like to start by saying thanks for the compliments but all the bridesmaids that are over a certain age are all spoken for, sorry!

But me and (Best Man’s name), the best man, do agree on two things: firstly, (Bride’s name), she does look amazing today, and the dress is simply beautiful. I just feel sorry for whomever it is that’s picking up the bill for it. (pause for effect) Only joking (Groom’s name) it wasn’t too expensive, but you, the dress and your lovely wife combined look a million dollars. And secondly, I think all the wedding guests would agree that this is a match made in heaven – they are the perfect couple.

In every marriage there will be ups and downs; it’s inevitable, and they’re bound to have their differences. They are after all different people. To explain this… earlier today I asked (Groom’s name) what he wanted from their marriage. He responded that he wanted happiness, a large family and to be with his lovely new wife until the end of time. And when I asked (Bride’s name) what she wanted from the marriage, she replied, a new George Foreman grill and toaster oven. Not quite the same as (Groom’s name) , but still at least she is easy to satisfy. (pause for effect)

I’ve known (Bride’s name) for (X) amount of years now. We met (where you met – share a short story about the meeting) I’ve seen her with old boyfriends, but never as happy, or in love. That’s how I knew that (Groom’s name) was the one for her. The first time I saw them together, she was a happier person. She was relaxed, content and smiling…. smiling a lot. It must have been the way that (Groom’s name) made her feel, and how he appreciated her. He has shown her that she is truly special, unique and shown her true love. I know that if I am half as happy and loved as (Bride’s name) is when I get married, I will be truly blessed. And (Bride and Groom names), it’s hard to put into words how seeing you together, so happy, makes all of us here today feel. And, the great honor of witnessing you both in the church today, watching you both make vows to each other … we all knew they would last forever.

I know (Bride’s name) well, in the past she has felt insecure in relationships and this morning she was a bag of nerves, jumpy, walking in circles and saying that (Groom’s name) will not show up to the church on time and listing all the things that might go wrong during the course of the day. Everything from disaster hair dos to the wedding cars breaking down half way to the church. So (Bride’s name), I’ll tell you again what I told you this morning; “Don’t worry, (Groom’s name) loves you, of course he will be there, you are a beautiful, intelligent and loving person, that is all that matters. I’m sure he will be more nervous that you might change your mind”. (Optional ~ and if he doesn’t show I will personally hunt him down and make him pay!! Only Kidding (Groom’s name))

In days gone by… when we were little girls, (Bride’s name) and I spent hours dreaming of what our future husband’s would be like. Back then, she wanted Prince Charming to ride up on a white horse. By the time she met (Groom’s name), she was just happy that he didn’t smell like one!

Thank you (Bride’s name) for giving me the honor of being your Maid of Honor, today’s memories I will cherish forever. I am grateful for even knowing you, you have brought a wonderful friendship to my life and I am proud that you would grant me this opportunity. So thank you very much.

Ladies and Gentlemen, please could you stand and raise your glasses once again for the “Bride and Groom”.
