Leading up to the Wedding Day, for the week or two before the Wedding you will need to clear your schedule. As Groomsman there will be plenty to do. The final fittings for the Wedding suits, the final preparations for and attending rehearsal dinner, bachelor party preparations, wedding speech or wedding toast practice and many other chores will need your full attention.

These are the most important things to remember:-

Contact the Groom and Best Man

Make sure that you contact the Best Man and the Groom at least two weeks before the Wedding  Day and write in your schedule or diary all the engagements you will need to attend. Find out when final fittings for Wedding Suits will be and make sure you can be there. Ask about the rehearsal dinner, venue, time and offer help if needed.

Buy New Shoes

Buy new shoes for the Wedding, make sure they match with the rest of the Wedding Party and wear them each night at home for and hour or two to break them in. It’s no good being a crippled Groomsman  on the Wedding Day who can not dance with the beautiful bridesmaids.

Get a Haircut

Make sure you get a professional haircut about a week before the wedding.  Notice I said Professional Haircut, don’t be tempted to go for a cheaper back yard haircut like this guy. Remember that you will be in the wedding album for a long time, maybe  even on the internet in a book marked photo album. In any case plenty of people will access and see the photo of you in the Wedding Party so it is wise to get a professional haircut. A great haircut will have time to settle in a week and this will give you more confidence if you look great on the day.

The Bachelor Party

Offer your help to organize the bachelor party. Make sure that the Best Man has this thoroughly organized from beginning to end and make sure that the theme and activities are appropriate for the Groom. The Best Man may take your advice on this, he may not, but at least you will know what’s planned and have the opportunity put in place a good contingency plan if things go badly.

Remember, many bachelor party’s end up with an injured Groom or worse. You don’t want to have to explain why the Wedding is off to the Bride or her family. It’s worth thinking about and a bit of planning can make all the difference!

Speak to the Bride

Let the Bride know that you will be keeping eye on the Groom during the bachelor party and will not let things get out of hand.

Contact the MC

If you are intending to make a Wedding Speech or Wedding Toast make sure that the Wedding Master of Ceremonies (MC) has this information so that he can add it to his running sheet for the Wedding Reception. Ask the Groom who is officiating at the reception as the MC and ask if you can make direct contact with them. You will need to inform the MC how long your speech or toast is so he can factor in the time needed.

Practice your Speech or Toast

If you are making a Wedding Speech or Wedding Toast now is the time to start practicing. Practice, practice and practice some more. You should give this about  a half hour of your time each day leading up to the wedding day so you will be polished and professional on the night.
