Welcome to Cheap Wedding Flowers Series. We will give you useful wedding budget tips to trim the wedding costs. This article is titled Cheap Wedding Flowers – Part 1. Look out for our next article in the the Wedding Budget series, Cheap Wedding Flowers – Part 2.
Your Wedding or your child’s Wedding will be one of the most expensive events you will ever be a part of. This is especially true if you are planning an elaborate occasion. With more and more talk about on generating a certain feel or in the instance of theme-based wedding, the role of flowers has increased exponentially.
Flowers are not only considered as a decorative essential but also are a part of every wedding, regardless of the wedding theme. In trying to make the wedding day memorable, the bride and groom end up spending lots of time and money on the wedding flowers. However, with some planning and astute thinking, you can drastically cut down on the floral expenditure without compromising the look of your wedding.
Changing your Flower Type.
Swapping expensive flowers for less expensive ones can save up to $5 per stem and small substitutions all add up. If you were planning on having five roses per bouquet and 10 per centerpiece – with a wedding party of five girls and guest list of 150 people, you’ve just saved over $500 by simply exchanging flowers in all your bouquets and table arrangements.
Before planning the color of your wedding flowers, it is always best to know the color of the theme of the wedding and the color of the bridesmaid’s dresses so that the floral colors complement the wedding party colors.
Wedding Flower Budget Ideas.
It is most important to set out the entire wedding budget and make provisions for floral budget. The Wedding Flowers should be around 4% of the total Wedding Budget. It is important to ensure you do not spend too much or too little on floral decorations for the ceremony venue (or church) and the reception venue. Plan all your flower expenditure within this budget.
Also don’t forget the bouquets for the Bride and all female attendants, buttonhole flowers for the Groom, Best Man and Groomsmen, buttonholes for the Father of the Bride and Father of the Groom and corsages for both the Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom.
Once you have an idea of your flower budget then you can start thinking about the type of arrangements and the type of flowers you would like to use. You can now get quotes from your favorite florists and it is always best to get two or three quotes. If the florists are able to fit in your budget, that’s great, but a word of warning, as with most other services as soon as they hear the word “Wedding” the prices might increase.
Choose a florist that understands your monetary concerns and is expert at bringing out the best at reasonable rates. A reputable florist will even help you in selecting the best inexpensive wedding flowers and will know ways to make less look more.
As in the image shown above it is possible to have a very simple Bridal Bouquet, with minimum blooms but still has maximum impact. It’s true that sometimes less is more.
Wholesale Wedding Flowers
The next step towards tightening your expenditure is to consider buying the wedding flowers wholesale. Most retail florists will not appreciate you asking them to arrange the flowers you have bought your flowers wholesale but you can find freelance florists who will arrange your wedding flowers to suit your needs. Make sure that if you are choosing this option that you are able to find a florist that can be booked on your Wedding Day. Buying your wedding flowers wholesale will save the retailer’s margin. If it is spring or early summer season the availability of flowers is already in abundance so buying wholesale certainly makes sense. This is sure to trim the wedding costs.

I also agree that many places mark up for weddings. I also have to point out that it’s because brides are picky, cranky, and way more work than they should be. In floral work, much of the ‘wedding tax’ is the need to buy more flowers so that the florist can use only the best quality. Heaven forbid those white roses should be anything but pristine.
