Groom Wedding Tips – Choosing your Best Man

One of the decisions of the Groom is choosing your Best Man. This choice is at the sole discretion of the Groom and will be a decision that needs careful consideration. Traditionally the Best Man was chosen as the Grooms closest single male friend however, it is not unusual for the Best Man to be a married man.

Who to choose as Best Man?

So, you are wondering who to choose, if you have a brother close in age then it might be expected by your family to choose him. This is a good choice for many Groom’s but don’t be bullied into this if you know a friend who would rise to the challenge of being Best Man better than your brother. Life long friends are another option as they know you better that anyone else and would have a lot to offer in the role of Best Man.

When do you need to choose your Best Man?

Having your Best Man booked well prior to the Wedding is a good option. If you are planning to get married in 12 months then your choosing your Best Man should be high on your priority list. There is a lot to organize and the sooner you have your male wedding party organized the better.

What makes a great Best Man?

Before making the decision about your Best Man it is wise to keep a few things in mind. Here are some questions you can ask yourself about the Best Man you are considering to help your decision.

  • Would he be happy and honored to fulfill the task of Best Man?
  • Has he ever been a Best Man before and if so did he enjoy the experience?
  • Does he have good organizational skills?
  • Is he and enthusiastic person who can rise to challenges?
  • Is he able to manage emergency or crisis situations?
  • Is he a people person who is easy going and well liked by most people he meets?
  • Will he be able to make a Wedding Speech in front of a large group of people?
  • Is he responsible, reliable and dependable? (He will need to be on time to all events, organize the bachelor party and safe guard the wedding rings… just to name a few tasks)
  • Does he have a good relationship with the Bride?
  • Does he have time to participate in the many wedding planning tasks and pre-wedding events?

How do I ask my Best Man?

When you have a Best Man candidate who ticks the boxes above that are important to you, it is time to ask him to be your Best Man. This should be done in a casual situation organized by you. Invite the Best Man for a drink or out for a coffee and ask him. If he seems hesitant accepting the role of Best Man then it is best to consider other possible alternatives. You don’t need a half hearted Best Man and you don’t need to have to replace him at the last minute.

More suggestions for choosing your Best Man

It is always wise to choose the most responsible of your friends to be your Best Man. Your Best Man will not only stand next to you at the Altar he will also be responsible for many tasks and you will need someone who can manage this successfully.

Best Man is chosen, what’s next?

When you have finished choosing your Best Man make sure that you and your Bride to be have an opportunity to sit down with the Best Man and discuss what the role means to you both, what tasks are expected to be completed by the Best Man and inform the him that he is needed to make the Best Man Wedding Speech at the reception. This will help your Best Man understand how important his role is to the Wedding Day and allow him plenty of time for preparation.

As the Groom the next step is to work with the Best Man in choosing other male members of the Wedding Party. It is important to keep personalities in mind when doing this as the male members of the Wedding Party will be spending some time together in the weeks leading up to the Wedding Day.

The question always comes up; Wedding Costs ~ Who Pays for What. When planning your Wedding it is important to have some Wedding Tips and advice on this delicate topic. By gaining an understanding how Wedding Costs can grow and sometimes spiral out of control we hope to inform you so you can keep the Wedding Costs in check and enjoy your Honeymoon!

The Average Wedding Costs to Expect.

The average that American couples spend on their Wedding Day is estimated at $20,400. This has been averaged out and it is noted that most couples spend between $15,300 and $25,500. It is also suggested that many of these couples only originally estimated their Wedding Costs to be around 50% of what they actually spent on the Wedding. Who Pays for What?

Traditional Families.

In some families, of a more traditional nature, this has already been decided upon and the parents of the Bride are more than happy to meet most of the Wedding Costs. There is a down side to this, the Brides parents are in control and the guest list, theme and type of the Wedding will reflect this. If you are an easy going Bride and Groom, this will not pose any problem.

Modern Families.

In more modern families the Bride and Groom take a much more active role in the type and theme of the Wedding and  as a result also bear many of the Wedding Costs. This change in responsibility for the Wedding Costs may be due to our changing and evolving society.
